PASTOR SOLOMON KINLOCH JR. ENDORSED BY AFSCME FOR DETROIT MAYOR

Campaign Momentum Builds with Prominent Endorsements

DETROIT- Today, the Kinloch for Mayor campaign announced the support of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) 925 in his candidacy for Detroit mayor.

I am honored to have the support of AFSCME 925, Detroit’s largest public service union,” said Kinloch. “Working people know they will always have a seat at the table under a Kinloch administration. This campaign is about making sure Detroit’s renaissance reaches every neighborhood, not just Downtown and AFSCME is a critical partner.”

AFSCME 925 Executive Director Gino Carbenia said, “Detroit has a storied history and experienced remarkable comebacks; however, we must make sure that the comeback is real for all working people in the city. Rev. Kinloch will fight for a Detroit that works for everyone, especially those who make it happen every day, like AFSCME members. AFSCME members keep the City of Detroit running every day. We keep our buses moving, our streets and parks clean and safe, help patients in our hospitals and our kids at school, and work with some of our most vulnerable at agencies across the city. Detroit is resilient and Detroit is tough, and so are AFSCME members and retirees. AFSCME members know we have a champion in Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr, and we are proud to support his campaign for Mayor of Detroit.”

AFSCME 925’s endorsement adds to a growing list of support for Kinloch that includes the UAW, the 12th and 13th Congressional Districts, the Black Slate, former Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence, and Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

SOLOMON KINLOCH WINS MAYORAL DEBATE

Kinloch Promises to be a Mayor for all Detroiters

DETROIT- Tonight, Solomon Kinloch, a first-time candidate, debating a stage full of institutional politicians and veteran campaigners, won the night, promising investment in Detroit’s neighborhoods, an economy with opportunities for all Detroiters, and unprecedented support for Detroit’s children and schools.

I’ve spent my life bringing people together and taking direct action to deliver positive change in neighborhoods,” said Kinloch. “Detroiters are ready for bigger plans to create safe and thriving neighborhoods. They want a mayor who will increase work, wages, and wealth, not just for some, but for everyone in our city. They deserve a champion for our schools to help our kids thrive. I’m focused on the issues Detroiters care most about, and this campaign is about who you trust to deliver on their promises.”

Earlier today, the Kinloch for Mayor campaign announced the endorsement of the 12th Congressional District, consolidating support from both congressional districts that represent Detroit voters. The 13th Congressional District endorsed Kinloch unanimously in late May. Kinloch’s campaign also has the support of the UAW, Michigan’s largest union, with members and their families totaling more than 120,000 people within Detroit. Additional endorsements are expected in the coming days, adding to the campaign’s growing grassroots advantage.

More than 2,500 volunteers are already engaged, knocking on doors, making calls, and distributing “Kinloch for Mayor” lawn signs. The campaign is on pace to reach at least 100,000 doors before the August 5 primary.

Absentee ballots will be mailed to 100,000 Detroit voters beginning June 22.
